A wonderful stay in Gers Department
After an overnight flight JHB-Paris-Toulouse, we were warmly greeted by Colette and Yves, our longtime friends whom we met in 1984, when we left Normandy for Auch. (Department of le Gers, around 70km from Toulouse) We stayed in Auch for 6 years, before leaving for the island of Reunion (1990-2013)
Since last year, August 2014 we have decided that every summer we will organize a reunion of old friends. Last year, we were 6 adults and two youngs: Colette, and Yves, Pierre and his son Louis (20 years), Monique and his son Hugo (18 years).

This year, Hugo, in accordance with his compulsory university curriculum, and being a beneficiary of European Erasmus Programme, could not join us because of he has to spend one year in Madrid.
Of course, we would like to find other old friends. However, the availability of others did not enable us to find ourselves all together for a few days.
Fortunately, the big house in the country of Yves and Colette gives us the opportunity to be together under one roof
This was the opportunity to evoke some old and pleasant memories as well as future plans for each clan’s member.
Colette, as inhabitants of the Gers (a spot, like La Dordogne-Le Périgord where people are fond of great pleasure of the palate =plaisirs de la table, and they honour it seriously) is an excellent cook. She chooses, with great care, the ingredients for her dishes, made with love.
For welcoming us, as she knows that Betty and I love to enjoy fish and sea food, she had prepared a terrine (pâté) of turbot topped with Saint- Jacques shells.
Not an ordinary dish!! I would say!
Obviously, red and white wines, taken out of the cellar, complement these delicious dishes: game birds: young partridges and pheasants provided by Christian, her brother-in-law. They were slow roasted at a slow cooking, low temperature: for at least 3 hours at 80 ° C-90 ° and served with the vegetable garden of Christian

Christian’s bottle of Vieux Armagnac, is aged 50 years now. Christian is planning to uncork and enjoy it when celebrating the 50 years of their weeding in 2025

One must mention local specialities or products such as : foies gras ( duck or goose fat liver), smoked duck breast, confit d’oie or confit de canard (duck or geese cooked in their own fat to preserve their meat), Armagnac, a kind of Brandy and Agen’s prunes
